After a Coral Springs car accident, get medical care within 14 days. Florida's PIP coverage, which pays the first $10,000 of your medical bills and lost wages, only applies if you are treated within 14 days of the crash (§627.736).
You can claim against the at-fault driver beyond PIP if your injury is permanent or significant (§627.737). You generally have two years to file (§95.11), and you recover nothing if you are found more than 50% at fault (§768.81). Free case review 24/7: (844) 877-8679.
One Coral Springs family came to us after more than a year with another attorney and no movement from the insurer on their daughter's car accident claim. Steven Romanello took over, and in under three weeks the insurer paid the policy limits. Read the family's review on our Coral Springs personal injury page →

Where Coral Springs Car Crashes Happen
The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization studied three Coral Springs locations on Royal Palm Boulevard using Signal Four Analytics, the state's crash records system. The numbers below cover reported crashes from January 2015 to August 2021.
| Location | Reported crashes | Most common crash types | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Royal Palm Blvd at Riverside Dr (listed as a high-crash location in the county's long-range transportation plan) | 287 | Rear-end 56%, left-turn 20% | Broward MPO, Feb 2022 |
| Royal Palm Blvd, University Dr to Riverside Dr (corridor) | 405 | Rear-end 52%. Leading cause: careless driving, 47% | Broward MPO |
| Royal Palm Blvd at NW 89th Dr | 64 | Rear-end 31%, left-turn 22%, angle 20% | Broward MPO, Jan 2022 |
Rear-end and left-turn crashes dominate all three. Those two crash types usually come down to who was following too closely or who failed to yield, which is why the crash report, witness statements and any video matter so much in the first week. For current countywide numbers, see the Florida crash dashboard.
Your First Week on a Coral Springs Car Accident Case
- The same day. A team member reaches out right away, often the same day you call, to make sure you are safe and getting medical care. Your case is handled by Lorne Kaiser or Steven Romanello directly.
- The crash report. We pull the report from the agency that responded: Coral Springs Police for city streets, or the Florida Highway Patrol for crashes they work. Florida keeps crash reports confidential for 60 days, except to the people involved, their attorneys and insurers (§316.066).
- Your vehicle. We photograph and preserve your car before it is repaired or declared a total loss. Once a car is crushed or fixed, the damage evidence is gone.
- Video. We check for traffic-camera, dashcam, doorbell and business security video of the crash. Many systems record over themselves within days.
- Evidence and the insurers. We gather photos and witness statements, send preservation letters to the at-fault driver and their insurer, and handle every insurance call so you don't have to.
- Your PIP claim. We open the PIP claim so your treatment starts within Florida's 14-day window.
The Florida Rules That Decide a Car Accident Claim
PIP and the 14-day rule
Florida is a no-fault state. Your own personal injury protection (PIP) coverage pays 80% of reasonable medical bills and 60% of lost income, up to $10,000, no matter who caused the crash. You must get initial treatment within 14 days. If a doctor does not find an emergency medical condition, PIP medical benefits are capped at $2,500 (§627.736).
When you can claim against the other driver
To go beyond PIP and recover pain and suffering from the at-fault driver, your injury has to meet Florida's threshold: a significant and permanent loss of an important bodily function, a permanent injury, significant and permanent scarring or disfigurement, or death (§627.737). Your medical records decide whether you meet it, which is why consistent treatment matters.
The 50% fault bar
Since March 2023, Florida bars recovery if you are found more than 50% at fault. At 50% or less, your recovery is reduced by your share of fault (§768.81). In a rear-end or left-turn crash, insurers often argue the injured driver shares the blame, so the fault evidence gathered in week one carries real weight.
The two-year deadline
Most car accident lawsuits must be filed within two years of the crash (§95.11). Coral Springs cases are filed in Broward's 17th Judicial Circuit at the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale. Claims against a government vehicle have shorter notice rules.
Who Pays When the Other Driver Has Little or No Insurance
Florida only requires drivers to carry PIP and $10,000 in property damage coverage. Bodily injury coverage is not required for most drivers (§324.022), so the driver who hit you may have little or none. That is where these sources come in:
| Source of payment | When it applies | Learn more |
|---|---|---|
| Your PIP | Every crash. Pays 80% of medical bills and 60% of lost income, up to $10,000, if you are treated within 14 days. | §627.736 |
| The at-fault driver's bodily injury coverage | When the driver carries it and your injury meets the permanent-injury threshold. Not required for most Florida drivers. | §324.022 |
| Your uninsured motorist coverage | When the at-fault driver has no coverage or too little, if you carry it. | §627.727 |
| The vehicle owner | When someone else was driving the owner's car. | Dangerous instrumentality rule |
| A rideshare company's policy | When an Uber or Lyft driver was involved. | Coral Springs Uber · Coral Springs Lyft |
| A commercial carrier's policy | When a delivery van or truck caused the crash. | Coral Springs truck accidents |
| Added claims in impaired-driving crashes | When the other driver was drunk or impaired. | Coral Springs drunk driving accidents |

Coral Springs Car Accident FAQ
How soon do I need to see a doctor after a car accident in Coral Springs?
Within 14 days. Florida PIP only pays if you receive initial treatment within 14 days of the crash. Going sooner also creates a clear medical record linking your injuries to the accident.
How do I get my Coral Springs crash report?
Reports for crashes worked by Coral Springs Police come from the police department, and Florida Highway Patrol reports come from the state's crash report portal. For the first 60 days, reports are only released to the people involved, their attorneys and their insurers. We request it for you.
What if the driver who hit me has no insurance?
Your own PIP still pays the first $10,000 of covered medical bills and lost wages. Beyond that, your uninsured motorist coverage is usually the main source. We also check whether the vehicle owner, an employer or a rideshare policy can be held responsible.
Can I recover if I was partly at fault?
Yes, as long as you are found 50% at fault or less. Your recovery is reduced by your share of fault. Above 50%, Florida law bars recovery.
Do I need a lawyer if the crash seemed minor?
Not always. If you were hurt, missed work, or the insurer is disputing fault, a free review tells you what the claim may be worth before you sign anything. Once you sign a release, you cannot reopen the claim.
Should I talk to the other driver's insurance adjuster?
You have to report the crash to your own insurer, but you are not required to give the other driver's insurer a recorded statement. Adjusters use those statements to argue you were partly at fault or that your injuries came from something else. Once you have a lawyer, the adjuster talks to us instead.
How much does a Coral Springs car accident attorney cost?
Nothing upfront. We work on a contingency fee and are paid only if we recover money for you. The case review is free.
