Car crashes into buildings and homes are more common than you may think. According to the Sun-Sentinel, on Monday, December 4, 2023, two vehicles struck structures in Tamarac and Fort Lauderdale in two different instances.
At about 3 p.m., a pickup truck driver crashed through a business in a Tamarac strip mall, sustaining minor injuries, according to a Tamarac Fire Rescue spokesperson.
According to the source, the motorist collided with a bakery’s warehouse in the 7100 block of North University Drive, a strip mall. There was no hospital visit for the driver.
Reportedly, the area had a “strong odor” after the truck crashed through the structure and onto the oil and cleaning supply shelves. A hazmat team was called in.
In the 2300 block of Southwest 36th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, a woman operating a Jeep collided with a house just after ten in the morning. According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Garret Pingol, the woman pulled off the road, went through the yard, and entered the back of the vacation rental house.
According to the Fire Rescue Battalion Chief, the Jeep was entirely within the house when the fire rescue arrived, and they had to remove her from the vehicle. The woman inside the jeep was in serious yet stable condition when she was brought to the hospital.
In Florida, when a driver crashes into a structure, causing damage or injury, they may face significant legal liability. Under state law, property owners and any injured parties within the structure can seek compensation for damages. Similarly, passengers in the vehicle who suffer injuries due to the driver’s negligence can also file claims.
For insurance coverages, both homeowners and automobile policies may cover the loss.
